Sage MAS 500 v7.2 64-bit Server Registration Issues

Software manufacturers have gone to great lengths to ensure that their creations are not pirated by crafty programmers. The methods employed by companies such as Sage and Microsoft are becoming more and more sophisticated. However, sometimes this added layer of complexity can create installation issues and require extra steps to resolve.

Sage MAS 500 v7.2 requires valid registration information in order to work past the 30-day trial period. If you are experiencing registration issues with an installation on a 64-bit server, an understanding of the following may help.

Sage MAS 500 v7.2 uses .dll files to ensure that a database has been properly registered with Sage. The name and location of these files depend on the type of machine that the installation was performed on.

32-bit Client – C:\WINDOWS\system32\LicRegClient.dll
32-bit Server – C:\WINDOWS\system32\LicRegServer.dll
64-bit Client – Not yet supported
64-bit Server – C:\WINDOWS\system32\LicRegServerx64.dll

Also, you may be running a SQL Server on a 64-bit machine in 32-bit mode. Although this is not recommended and not supported by Sage, there is a workaround that will allow you to get past the registration errors. Simply copy the LicRegServer.dll file from a 32-bit installation to the C:\WINDOWS\SysWOW64 folder on the 64-bit machine and register using the regsvr32 program.

I hope this article has helped to de-mystify the registration process in Sage MAS 500.
