Why Create A Test Company in MS Dynamics GP?
There are many reasons for creating a TEST Company. These companies are typically used as a restore database point when testing new processes, procedures or proposed setup changes prior to making the changes in the production company.
When creating a TEST company the Company Name in the test database should always be followed by the flag, <TEST>. E.g. Any Company, Inc.<TEST>
GP automatically recognizes this tag <TEST> and considers this as a Test Company and pops the message "This company is set up for testing. Please do not use this company for Live data processing." whenever you log on to this company. This acts as a reminder that a user is working in a non-production database.
Additionally if you have GP payroll installed GP will ignore the employee count in any company that contains the <TEST> flag otherwise GP will count the number of employees in all companies not containing this flag which could result in a message that you have exceed your employee count.
