Upgrading to Dynamics SL Version 7 – Feature Pack 1 or Service Pack 2?

Due to the retirement of version 6.0 and older service packs for version 6.5, several of our clients have been upgrading to version 7.

There are two upgrade paths to 7.0

  1. Feature Pack 1
  2. Service Pack 2

Feature Pack 1 includes significant new functionality, including locking down period closings, grid sorting of documents,  enhancements to the Project Controller series and more.  You can upgrade directly from 6.5 or 7.0 Service Pack 1.  If you’ve been off a supported version for awhile, you can even upgrade directly from older versions like 4.1 to 6.0

Service Pack 2 is a compilation of various hot fixes that have been released since Service Pack 1.  Service Pack 2 does not include the new functionality found in Feature Pack 1. Once you upgrade to Service Pack 2, you cannot then upgrade to Feature Pack 1.

Feature Pack 1 and Service Pack 2 are basically two different paths that will converge with the release of Dynamics SL 2010 next year.
